Use of the Service Flag dates back to World War I.

When displayed in a window a Blue Star Service Flag indicated a loved one in the military service.

A Gold Star indicated a loved one had been killed.

The number of stars indicated the number of loved ones in service.  Use of the flags continued through World War II.

We renewed this tradition during Desert Shield/Desert Storm giving away over 165,000 paper flags.  

We are now giving away paper Service Flags for Operation “ENDURING FREEDOM.”

A Service Flag is the appropriate way to show support of your loved one in the military service.
